Monster Road

A documentary that delves into the Bruce Bickford universe, uncovering the mysteries behind this enigmatic artist by examining his cosmonogy and the different facets of his life and work. Filmed over a period of five years, Brett Ingram follows Bickford’s daily life and takes a close look at his relationship to his father, a philosopher with Alzheimer’s who has since passed away. "Monster Road" integrates excerpts from Bickford’s films and helps unlock the doors to his imagination, his childlike worlds. It’s hard to imagine all the years and dedication that go into a one film. The frenetic energy of the scenes makes it easy to forget that Bickford’s clay or drawn animation process is actually quite meticulous and long. The small imperfections are what make it possible to see his technique. Bickford pushes the process as far as he can, animating multiple subjects at the same time all while retaining the essence of their movements. Some say he is simply the finest animator in the world.

Followed by a talk with Bruce Bickford.
