Ever since the beginning, Nova has been interested in workshops and production co-op experiences in other European cities, such as by Studio Eèn (Rotterdam), Filmstad, Filmlab and Filmblik (The Hague), the 102 (Grenoble), the School of the Street (Dunkerque), L’abominable, Riquita, the Workshops Varan and the C.A.E.S. (Paris), the Black Audio Collective (London), Cine Phantom (Moscow), etc. Not to mention those active in Brussels: Graphoui, Epicentre, the Workshop of Young Film-makers, the Brussels Audiovisual Center, the Brussels Video Center, the "Centre Nerveux", the Children’s House in Anderlecht, the Ateliers Populaires, etc.

This is why in the past few months, Nova has started a production and training workshop/program. Recent workshops focused on shooting counter-culture news items with light, hand-held cameras (Hi-8 or S-VHS). We’re currently working towards developin. a new production structure called VOX (Video Organization for X) with partners Polymorfilms and Citymine(d). The basic philosophy is: democratize the media, video-activism and fast-paced production. However we also want to launch a production structure dedicated more to artistic and experimental creations, maybe taking the shape of a workshop/lab or residency. Material in 35mm, 16mm, Super-8, analog editing units and, in the near future, digital editing will be made available.

VOX is a "media-activist" collective based on the common denominator of video. Its objective is to create films that offer a different look at society. It renders audiovisual tools accessible to both individuals and groups. Contrary to traditional media networks where information has to go through numerous "middlemen" that inevitably serve as filters, VOX will function as a collective. Meetings are held every first and third Wednesday of the month, and are open to everybody.

And those "zero-budget" films done would be high contenders for future Open Screens or TV Nova!
